Piazza D'Angelo is a family run business with a long history. In 1980, two brothers from the southern toe of Italy moved to Marin with dreams of opening an authentic Italian restaurant. The dream came true a year later when co-owners Domenico and Paolo Petrone opened the now upscale trattoria Piazza D’Angelo.
Originally from a small town called Decollatura in Calabria, Domenico Petrone and his brother Paolo immigrated to New York with their family in 1966. With only a high school education, Domenico went right into the restaurant business starting as a busboy and later as a waiter. At 23 years old he eventually owned an Italian restaurant with his older brother called Villa Parma, in Long Island. In the meantime, Paolo Petrone stayed in school and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hunter College and a graduate degree from New York University and the University of Bologna. While on the east coast, Paolo also worked at Villa Parma
and later ran a successful nightclub in Long Island.
In 1981 both brothers decided to move out to the west coast and settled in Marin. They discovered the charming town of Mill Valley and opened Piazza D’Angelo Ristorante. In 1991, the brothers decided to renovate the once dark and old-fashioned restaurant into a lively, upscale trattoria. The restaurant now offers two outdoor garden patios, a wood-burning pizza oven, a full service bar, a front terracotta dining room with view of the piazza and a back dining room with a fireplace.
Piazza D'Angelo, located across from downtown Mill Valley's main piazza, takes pride in offering fresh and authentic Italian cuisine from both southern and northern regions of Italy. General Manager Partner Natale Cardamone selects over 200 wines from Italy and California for the wine list. Piazza D’Angelo welcomes you to wine and dine with an authentic Italian experience!
Domenico and Paolo Petrone are also involved in three Marin hotels with partners Ray and Patience Zambrano; the cozy Mill Valley Inn located right around the corner from Piazza D’Angelo, the 23-room Waters Edge Hotel in Tiburon, and the 50-room Acqua Hotel in Mill Valley. In 2001 Paolo Petrone co-developed the Hotel Healdsburg and is now its managing partner.
